Faculty Mentors

Faculty engagement is a centerpiece of the Second-year Transformational Experience Program (STEP). Research shows that interaction with faculty, both formal and informal, is a predictor of student success. That is why STEP has made it a priority to create an environment at Ohio State in which faculty and students develop meaningful academic and intellectual engagement.

Through STEP, students are matched with select faculty members who guide them through an exploration of education-enhancing experiences, interact with students one-on-one and in groups, and provide advice and mentoring that will help students in their transition from student to globally-minded professional.

STEP Faculty Mentors are comprised of individuals who are on the faculty of The Ohio State University according to the University Faculty Rules (Chapter 3335-5-19, Faculty, Governance, and Committees). In some cases, staff may be considered for a STEP mentor role if they hold exempt status within the university system and either

• Hold a terminal degree in the area of discipline OR
• Teach a course in the university system OR
• Contribute in a unique and significant way to the university
